Consulting

Our philosophy is that a good building is one that unites the idiosyncratic needs of its inhabitants with the realities of its exact spot on the planet. In simple English, that means our goal is to listen to what you need and help you realize it in the “greenest” incarnation that your situation will allow. To do that, we have three things in the front of our minds as we consult: practicality, honesty, and idealism.

Practicality. We have a huge amount of hands on building experience. In the context of consulting, this means we understand how a given design or system can be actually implemented on the ground. We have no desire to be involved in creating a fantastic design that has no chance of being built in the real world.

Honesty. We keep very busy, so we have no need or desire to get involved in projects for which we don’t have a level of excitement and a confidence that our input will be of real value. That means that after we listen to what you need, we’ll tell you very honestly if and how we think we can be of help. Once we're on the job, we'll also be brutally honest about the potential difficulties that might be looming on the horizon. If based on our understanding of your situation, we think something is too difficult, too expensive, or too idealistic, we'll tell you straight up.

Idealism. At the same time, our secret goal is to save the world one building at a time. Every building starts in the imagination and then must be carefully cajoled to join us in the physical world. To do that, we have to combine practical experience with feelings, creativity, play, and even love. It is our conscious goal to push these intangibles to the limit that the given tangibles will allow.
