What's New
We're very excited to announce the arrival of our new book, the
stupendous "Building
Green: A Complete How-to Guide to Alternative Building Methods". You have to see this thing to believe it. Over
600 pages long with close to 1500 full color photos, there is nothing
else like it. We really think it's going to be helpful to a lot of
people.
Clarke's
first book, "The Good
House Book", came out 1 1/2 years ago. The two books work
well together. Though "Building Green" covers fundamental
concepts before diving head first into how-to instruction, "Good
House" is an
in-depth look at those fundamentals from the "alternative" or "green" point
of view. The book was designed as a primer for the beginner, but
it has proven useful to architects
and builders who want an introduction to alternatives to the resource
munching machine that is modern conventional construction. Perhaps
the best compliments have come from those readers who started out
with little interest in building. These folks often tell Clarke that
the book's voice and visual style "makes a boring topic interesting".
For those of us who don't find building boring, it's an even more
immenintly enjoyable, thought-provoking read.
There's an excerpt from "The Good House Book" in the Dec/Jan issue
of Mother Earth News. Clarke also has an article on the basics of
passive solar design coming out in the Feb/Mar issue of the same
magazine.
